The 1998 Pinot Gris Reserve Personnelle displays smoky pear, spice cake, and butter scents. Light to medium-bodied and spicy, this silky-textured wine offers apple, apricot and white peach flavors. Well-made and balanced, it should be drunk over the course of the next 6 years. Lower-pitched, closed nose hints at butter and orange peel. Bigger and spicier than the Tokay-Pinot Gris Réserve, with a bit more residual sugar (around 12 g/l, vs. 8 for the above) and higher alcohol (13.5%, vs. 13%). Superripe but not overripe. A rich, layered, fat wine, with very good structure and length.
