The 2006 vintage continues to impress, particularly in Hermitage. The 2006 Hermitage le Meal Estate has sensational ripeness and texture to go with big, meaty, beefy notes of bloody meats, iron, gravel, olive and assorted dark fruits. Showing more floral and violet characteristics with time in the glass, this full-bodied, beauty has terrific concentration, chewy tannin and a big finish. It will have 30 years of longevity, but owners will need to watch that tannin level.

Bright ruby. Seductively perfumed, complex bouquet of cassis, black cherry, tobacco, violet, olive and graphite; this covers all the syrah food groups. Fleshy red and black fruit flavors boast very good depth and are enlivened by cracked pepper and floral pastille nuances. This has become fresher since last year. Finishes with gentle clinging sweetness and excellent clarity. Seems younger than the Dionnieres right now.
Inky ruby. Powerfully aromatic bouquet of kirsch, blackcurrant, licorice, olive and smoky bacon fat. Round and weighty, offering sweet raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and picking up a complex array of floral pastille and succulent herb notes on the close. Seemed to gain in richness in the glass, taking on a liqueur-like aspect while maintaing impressive vivacity.
