The 1996 Cote Rotie Les Grandes Places is concentrated and rich. The wine exhibits a dark ruby color with purple nuances, and plenty of toasty pain grille notes intermixed with blackberry and raspberry fruit. Deep ruby-red. Explosive yet cool aromas of blackberry, minerals, leather, game and pungent oak spice. The most concentrated of these '96s; shows real old-viney intensity, and more flesh than the last wine. More expressive today than Gerin's '96 La Landonne, and considerably sweeter in the mouth. Finishes firmly tannic and very long.
