Bright purple. Deeply pitched cherry and licorice scents are complicated by suave floral and spice components. Offers potent cherry-cola, blueberry and bitter chocolate flavors lifted by a peppery, spicy note. The finish features piquant minerality allied to enticing sweetness and considerable tenacity.

The 2010 St.-Joseph Clos de Cuminaille offers spicy oak, black cherry and sweet strawberry liqueur characteristics in its medium-bodied personality. A very good effort, it reveals lots of Burgundian tendencies as well as a supple-textured mouthfeel. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Two cuvees of St.-Joseph are produced, including Les Pierres (which comes from stony soils) and the Clos de Cuminaille (which is a true “Clos”). Dark, glowing crimson. Intense, meaty, more obvious oak than on the regular St-Joseph. Oak still showing. I’d certainly rather drink the regular one in the short term. (JR)
