Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2022-2045, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Sep 2022

The orange-amber 2001 Trockenbeerenauslese No. 6 Grande Cuvée Nouvelle Vague offers a brilliant, intense and concentrated bouquet of stewed apricots and blood oranges. On the palate, this is a rich, round and dense, brilliantly fresh and stimulating saline TBA with great intensity and length. 10% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

Concentration of fruit paste and spice on the palate in a rather severe way when compared to the many billowy, elegant wines around it today. Dried pit fruits, citrus zest, and woodsmoke step back in the finish just before they would become overly bitter. This is a wine with both bite and grip. An exception among the 2001s tasted today in that it's probably not the final blend. A small addition of a lemony, bright batch of welschriesling brought considerable clarity and brightness to a wine otherwise dominated by caramelized and strongly phenolic notes. But this was a blend we simply approximated on the spot in the glass, so while the wine is probably star-worthy, judgment is reserved.
