Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2007-2017, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Oct 2007

The 2005 Shiraz “Max’s Garden” was sourced from Heathcote. It was aged in French and American oak with 15% new French. It delivers a complex aromatic array of cedar, smoked meat, violets, pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry. This leads to a medium-bodied Shiraz which is just a bit lean on the palate. Aside from that, it has solid flavors and a moderately long finish. Drink it over the next 8-10 years. Two Hands is a negociant operation run impeccably by Michael Twelftree. It reflects the best that can be sourced from all over South Australia. The packaging provides some serious design competition to Dan Philips’ Grateful Palate and R Wines portfolio. Importer: Terlato Wines International, Lake Bluff, IL; www.twohandswines.com; Also tasted: 2007 Riesling “The Wolf” (82)

Dark red. A melange of dark berry, ripe cherry, plum and underbrush notes on the nose, with accents of anise and tobacco. Firm, focused and deep cherry and dark berry flavors pick up aged beef and licorice qualities with air. Youthfully solid wine with a powerful, dense tone to the finish, which is a touch wound up today. "This is the one that needs the most time of the Garden wines," says Twelftree.
