The 2003 Shiraz Max’s Garden is a cooler climate offering from the Cambrian soils of Heathcote. It possesses higher acidity than its siblings as well as a solid deep ruby/purple color, medium body, and more steely/mineral-like notes interwoven with black currant and blackberry fruit. A restrained, but well-made effort, it should drink well for a decade. This brilliant operation is a credit to the meticulous winemaking of Michael Twelftree and his staff! Medium ruby. Explosively fruity, slightly jammy aromas of high-toned raspberry, redcurrant and kirschRipe and sweet, with an almost jammy berry tone. I would have guessed grenache owing to the wine's sweet red fruit and supple texture. This put on weight and firmed up with air, which is a trait most of the Two Hands reds had in common. Finishes juicy and long, with fully buffered tannins.
