Full bottle 1,313 g. Pale ruby. Fresh, gamey fruit and an elegance that reminds me of the 2018 Barolos I tasted this morning! Tastes as though the tannins were initially quite present but they have certainly faded away now. Firm spine of fruit but we are not drinking it too early. Fairly ethereal but quite impressively long. Masses of sediment! I had to leave a good fifth of the wine in the bottle when decanting initially even though the bottle had been stood up for more than 24 hours. (JR)

The 1991 Hermitage La Sizeranne is spectacular. The saturated color and beautifully pure nose of cassis, licorice, and roasted scents are followed by a full-bodied, super-concentrated wine that is every bit as concentrated and intense as the 1990. It will drink well for 25 or more years. Chapoutier is proud to boast that while he is now the largest vineyard owner in Hermitage (85 acres, or about one-fourth of the entire appellation), he is only third when it comes to wine production!
