Donnhoff’s generically-labeled 2004 Riesling, stemming from Oberhauser Felsenberg and Kieselberg, sports a tropical nose of grapefruit, guava and banana, which leads into a mouthful of lush, almost gaudy fruit underlain by suggestions of honey and walnut oil and accented and invigorated by pungent minerality and nippy citricity. The finish lacks the clarity of the wine’s trocken counterpart, but I also suspect that it needs a bit more time in the bottle. Full, broad, peachy stuff that spreads across the palate. Very dense and concentrated. Off dry. Pure, open, scented. Very true palate impact. Lovely sculpted lemon flavours. (JR)
