The 2013 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru proves that this Domaine has been making top-notch wines for at least a decade. This bottle was opened and served blind to experienced palates who'd never heard of Buffet. They were as impressed as myself. Fragrant on the nose, this has plenty of sous-bois -tinged red fruit befitting a Volnay, more expressive than other Côte de Beaune reds this vintage. Rose petal hints emerge with time. You'd assume it was from a warmer season. Wonderful delineation. The palate is utterly harmonious with finely chiseled tannins, beautiful and effortless balance, gently building to a poised and caressing finish. Probably at its peak now, this is simply why people become infatuated with Burgundy. Tasted at Chez Bruce in London from an ex-Domaine bottle.
