The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru has a high-toned, floral bouquet with overt crushed violet scents that infiltrate the red berry fruit, perhaps obscuring some of the terroir expression. The medium-bodied, minerally palate displays fine tannin, crisp acidity and a light marine influence toward the finish. Good energy here, although I would have liked a soupçon more charm. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Faint, restrained nose. Something a little sour about the palate, and fairly grainy tannin. Seems rather ungainly. Perhaps this will become more rounded with time, although that sourness seems likely to remain. (RH)
The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin 1e Cru Clos Prieur has a light leafiness infusing the brambly red fruit, well defined if perhaps just missing a little intensity at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannin, quite linear and strict with good acidity and a grainy, quite saline finish that lends this satisfying persistence in the mouth. Give this 2-3 years in bottle and you should have a fine Clos Prieur.
