The 2018 Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru has a metallic note on the nose that presently obfuscates the fruit underneath. There is a bit of a reduction at play here, certainly some whole bunches. The palate is rough around the edges with some hardness to the tannins, dark berry fruit, touches of confit strawberry with an almost Northern Rhône-like finish. This is a little hard-going, but it pulls through in the end, softening its edges. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Very stemmy nose, some might find it a bit leafy/green. It does seem to be a little too far in the whole-bunch direction, needing a little more fruit at the core. Dry finish but the tannins are fine. Hard to know what this will do in bottle. (JH)
The 2018 Corton Les Renards Grand Cru contains 30% new oak with 100% whole cluster. It soaks up those stems with aplomb, the blackberry, wild hedgerow and thyme aromas bursting from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a little more backbone compared to the Le Rognet, and fine grip and density on the finish. Superb.
