Juicy red fruit that is rocket-fuelled by noticeably high alcohol. Furry tannins, enough acidic bite to give structure. This is Châteauneuf at its strongest, and the alcohol stands apart from the fruit and structure. (RH)

The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape l'Ephemere is 100% Syrah, matured in a mix of demi-muids and new oak barriques. It's super dark and saturated in hue, bursting with black cherries, blueberries and stone fruit on the nose, concealing the oak, at least for now. Full-bodied, supple and rich, finishing velvety and long, this wine combines impressive concentration with softness and accessibility.
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape showed beautifully, with a ripe, classic, Provençal bouquet of black raspberry, strawberries, and darker berry fruits as well as spice, garrigue, and pepper. Beautifully textured, full-bodied, yet all about finesse and elegance, it’s overflowing with character and charm. It’s going to shine for 15 years with no issues.
