Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers from Maison Faiveley is more backward on the nose with woodland, tree bark aromas infusing the red berry fruit that gain intensity quite rapidly in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, crisp acidity and a lively, quite peppery finish that has plenty of character. It lingers tenderly in the mouth long after the wine has departed. Bon vin.

Medium red. Aromas of raspberry, woodsmoke and flowers complemented by sexy oak tones. Supple and velvety, with inviting flavors of strawberry, raspberry, game and earth supported by smoky minerality. At once juicy and harmonious, finishing with sweet red fruits.
Lots of vanillin on the nose and palate. Red cherries, creamy and slightly confected. Very much defined by the creamy new oak influence – which seems overdone to me, I’m afraid. (RH)
(just 50% of a normal crop in 2012): Good full, medium red. Dark raspberry, smoke, game and leather on the nose, plus a suggestion of medicinal reserve. Supple and quite concentrated but youthfully closed, showing a saline minerality but limited sweetness today. The tannins are a bit rough in the early going.
