At the five year mark of ownership, the vines were really starting to respond to the changes in the vineyard, and Rocheyron stands out from many of the exuberantly ripe St Emilions in the hot 2015 vintage. What you get is clarity of fruit, with redcurrant, raspberry, black cherry, along with soy, saffron, mandarin and smoked earth. An excellent vintage, particularly for Right Bank Bordeaux, and what comes to mind most is quiet pleasure that limestone is being liberated to show its bright nuanced joyful character, and its ability to deliver controlled juice from start to finish. One to look out for, from owners Peter Sisseck and Silvio Denz, harvest from October 1, 30% new oak for ageing, 40hl/h yield, organic farming.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Rocheyron is scented of red fruits and florals with fragrant earth and bay leaves notes. The medium-bodied palate is fine and crunchy, pure and refreshing with a bit of chew to the tannins and good length.
The same blend as the 2016 (there’ might be slightly less Cabernet Franc), the 2015 Château Rocheyron is much more upfront and sexy and reveals deep purple color as well as terrific notes of black raspberries, salty minerality, Asian spices, and a distinct iron, almost bloody quality on both the nose and palate. With sweet tannin, no hard edges, and beautiful purity of fruit, drink this sumptuous, opulent Saint-Emilion anytime over the coming 15-20 years.
