(features the same mix of components as the 2015): Fresh medium red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant, red cherry and smoke. Sweeter and more pliant in the mouth than the Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes, with a sexy element of salty, smoky minerality. This plush, creamy wine shows an almost unctuous texture for the 2014 vintage but it also displays the sappy fruit of the year. Here the tannins are very well buffered by the wine's stuffing.

(tasted from cuve shortly before bottling; this will be labelled as village wine but it's made up of 60% La Richemone, 20% Les Cras and 20% Les Murgers, all premier crus): Bright, dark red. Aromas of dark cherry and smoky minerality. Wonderfully silky and refined for a village bottling, offering pungent flavors of raspberry, red licorice and hawthorn accented by orange zest. Finishes classically dry, with suave tannins and sneaky length. I suspect this wine will be more fun to drink than the Richemone Cuvée Ultra over the next ten years. This and the preceding 2014s in my tasting were 100% destemmed.

The 2014 Nuits St Georges Les Murgers des Cras is de facto premier cru -- a blend of les Cras, la Richemoines and les Murgers, but is actually sold as a village cru as Les Murgers des Cras, which is a name that Christophe bestowed. It has a quite voluminous bouquet with billowing red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, quite citrus-fresh in style and nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a crisp line of acidity, elegant and understated with a precise and refined tart cherry finish that is very winsome. A good idea to blend? I think so.
