Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2025-2032, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, Mar 2025

The 2022 Ferrande has evolved from its austere profile during the en primeur tasting to a more sumptuous character, offering up aromas of dark wild berries, licorice, spices, ripe mulberries and hints of flowers. Medium to full-bodied and dense for a Graves with an enrobing, delicate mid-palate, it has good depth at the core, velvety tannins and a fresh, long and penetrating finish. It could easily rival some of the wines from Pessac-Léognan.

The château team, together with consultant Thomas Duclos who arrived in 2021, have worked on minimising intervention, so infusion rather than pumping over, low temperature ferment, gentle extractions. It results in a lighter tannic frame, notable in such a powerful vintage, and a seductive fruit profile. Plump black cherry fruits with sandalwood and grilled oak, sweetness through the mid palate balanced by grip and freshness. 50% in barrel, 50% staves in stainless steel vats. 90ha of red grapes, planted 9,600v/ha which is particularly high for the Graves appellation, on high quality gravel and clay. Harvest September 11 to October 5, 45hl/h yield.

40% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Gris. Water white. Very Sauvignon on the nose and then with more richness underneath. Quite smoky and fun! But only if not too expensive. Long. (JR)

Cherries and plums with a hint of mint and cocoa come easily in the nose and mouth. Fresh, early drinking and fruity, this is going to be enjoyable on release.
