Note di degustazione
The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a gorgeous wine. It is also surprisingly open-knit. Soft contours wrap around a core of apricot, ripe pear, chamomile, marzipan and dried flowers. The 2022 spent twelve months in barrel followed by six months in a combination of mostly stainless steel with some sandstone amphora and larger-format oak. This is an undeniably attractive and engaging wine. Ideally, it would be nice to see a bit more Charlemagne energy. Then again, 2022 was marked by very warm, dry weather and four heat spikes. It will be interesting to see how this develops in bottle.

The 2017 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is aging with real grace, unwinding in the glass with notes of sweet citrus oil, crisp green apple, white flowers, pastry cream and vanilla, framed by a deft touch of reduction. It is medium to full-bodied, ample and incisive, with a satiny attack that segues into a pure, layered mid-palate animated by racy acids, concluding with a precise, saline finish.
Rich start and then a struck-match element on the nose. Obvious sweetness underneath. It's already broachable and I don't think this will be one of the longest-lived Corton-Charlemagnes from this domaine. (JR)
Bonneau du Martray has the largest single holding in Corton Charlemagne and have identified three mesoclimates and nine soils. This is from 15 parcels, spent 12 months in barrel, 30% in new oak, six months in barrel on fine lees. Biodynamic. Smoke, petals, apples. Fragrant on the nose. Then a rich layer of fruit under which lies bone-juddering clench on the palate. Broad and spicy, pulsating with power, yet finishing with charm. (TC)
