(vinified with two-thirds whole clusters and aged in 50% new oak): Bright, dark red. Knockout musky but backward nose combines raspberry, flinty minerality and truffley earth. Very concentrated, mineral-driven wine with a restrained sweetness and complex soil tones to its pungent flavors of red cherry and raspberry. Suave and juicy but a bit youthfully imploded, finishing with serious, noble tannins. Already quite smooth but it would be criminal not to lay this down for at least a few years.

Good deep red. Pungent smoky minerality currently overshadows rich raspberry on the nose. Silky, fat and smooth but with a powerful saline character accentuating the impression of vinosity. Most impressive today on the sappy, classically dry, very long finish, which features serious savory tannins and a captivating Oriental spice character. Outstanding potential here.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts appeared very closed and unresponsive on the nose, a little subdued when compared to the Corton Clos du Roi ’13 alongside. Then it begins to wake up with blackberry, cranberry and raspberry preserve that blossoms with each encouraging swirl. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, supple and rounded in the mouth, exerting a gentle grip and a long finish that belies the backbone. This is very fine, although as I remarked at the time, I feel that there is a clear difference between this and the "Christianne" cuvée this year.

Two-thirds whole bunch, 50% new oak. All racked. Dark crimson. Rich and dense. Very firm and tense. Grainy tannins. Very youthful. (JR)
