2019 Spatburgunder Bienenberg Grosses Gewachs

The 2019 Bienenberg Spätburgunder GG opens irresistibly radiant and fragrant on the nose, with fascinating Pinot aromas of red cherries and berries. The palate is the materialization of silky elegance with very delicate juiciness finely spiced with cloves and fine astringency from the oak barrels. Unique in style. This Bienenberg is as firm as it is filigreed, yet it's still slightly drying on the finish. Very promising. Tasted in Wiesbaden at the end of August 2021.

With its deep spicy power and dark minerality, this is a wine requiring another language entirely, one of structure not fruit. Not to say that the aromatic complexity isn’t there – grassy alpine herbs, orange zest, green tea – but ultimately this is a wine of shape. Silken texture, elegant acidity and finely woven tannins – perhaps the most taut of the Huber flight. Elegant and precise. A stony testament to the focused respect of land and vine. A wine for the ages, so be sure to give it plenty of time. (PS)
