Da bere 2015, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jul 2015

This Cockburn 1947 Vintage Port had been bottled by Justerini & Brooks in London. It has a simple dried cherry nose that is dominated by volatile, ester aromas mixed with a touch of glue. The palate is medium-bodied with clove and white pepper notes, falling a little short and abrupt on the finish. I suspect that there are better bottlings out there. Tasted May 2015.

Michael Symington’s first vintage. Lots of spring rain. Hot dry summer then a bit of rain in September. Still fabulous colour. Very pale rim. Mildly cheesy nose with lots of sweetness and coffee grounds. Very racy and complete. Hint of graininess. Extremely vigorous. Amazing staying power! Deeply satisfying. (JR)

Only 11 shippers declared this vintage. Very little was bottled because the market was in the doldrums post war. Pale tawny with definite yellow at the rim. Much lighter than the 1948, and more refreshing. Prunes and strong dried-fruit notes. Dried citrus peel. Appetising. A tiny bit of spirit on the finish but more life, subtlety and interest to it than the 1948. (JR)
