One of those hidden little gems of a wine that always makes you happy to have in the cellar, the 2005 Château Potensac offers seriously impressive aromatics of darker currants, scored earth, graphite, and cedar pencil. These carry over to the palate where the wine is medium to full-bodied, has a beautifully, layered richness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink this smoking good Médoc over the coming 15 years.

The 2005 Potensac is absolutely gorgeous. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Delicate, elegant and super-expressive, this Potensac is absolutely gorgeous in 2005, Time in the decanter brings out the fruit nicely, yet the 2005 remains light on its feet and a wine of real finesse. It is also still young and full of life. What a treat it is to taste it from a perfectly stored bottle.
Softly spoken nose. Hello? Anyone there? The palate has a bit more fruit to show off, but this is pretty lean and pinched overall. Traditional claret, perhaps – but at a very modern price, no doubt. (RH)
