The 2006 Beau-Séjour Bécot was picked between 21 September and 3 October. Consistent with the bottle tasted last year, it has a lively nose with blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, although it does not have the complexity or the ambition of the 2005. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite noticeable acidity here that renders the finish just a little angular and I noticed a light tinny tinctured on the aftertaste. Tasted at the château.

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners' 2006 tasting, the 2006 Château Beausejour-Bécot did not fire on all cylinders as I was expecting. The nose is vibrant with dark berry, blackberry and strawberry preserve, well defined and generous with faint smoky notes developing. The palate is medium-bodied, spicy on the entry with moderate weight, fleshy but just attenuating slightly towards the finish. It has an easy-going sensibility that surprised me, though I suspect that with decanting this would gain more substance. Tasted April 2016.
Tasted blind. Warm, evolved nose. Loose and bloody on the palate. Quite drying tannins on the end. Desperately needs food. (JR)
