Note di degustazione
Barberino Val d'Elsa. 90% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino, 5% Canaiolo. Medium ruby and still quite youthful. Sweet, almost jammy nose. Contrasting lifted cherry palate, with creamy oak finish and hints of fruitcake. Could be more exciting. Underachieving. (WS)

The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is a very pretty, centered wine. Dark cherries, plums, spices, menthol, cedar, game and tobacco are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. The 2008 is an understated Riserva that impresses for its length, focus and balance.

I have been drinking the wines of Castello di Monsanto since about as long as I can remember, which is at least 20 years. This set of new releases is quite frankly perplexing. In particular the flagships Nemo and Il Poggio are disappointing in 2007. Hopefully Monsanto will get back on track quickly. Importer: MW Imports, Brooklyn, NY; tel. (718) 596-3339
