The 2023 Chardonnay Green Acres Vineyard has serious density and power, surely a function of the low-yielding site with tiny berries. The 30% new oak lends an opulence that feels a little out of line with the house style, and the acidity—though fresh—is slightly jagged through the finish. Baked apple, cream and lemon curd open nicely.

The most robust of the whites in the range, the 2023 Chardonnay Green Acres Vineyard is a medium yellow color and is ripe with a more polished feel. It offers baked apples, vanilla, preserved lemon, and baking spice aromatics. It’s full-bodied, yet not heavy, with a silky, rounded texture and a fruity, easygoing feel that persists through the finish, accompanied by even acidity. It’s the sunniest of the wines, although it retains the stylistic elegance of the Auteur’s range. Drink now or over the next few years.
