The 2003 Domaine Font de Michelle Châteauneuf-du-Pape possesses a beautiful nose cherry and raspberry fruit with a big dose of garrigue and earth. Medium bodied with a smooth but tight feel and a nice finish. Should be interesting to see how this ages.

The medium ruby-colored 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape doesn’t appear to have a lot of color and then hits the palate with a great deal more impact and richness than the somewhat feeble color suggests. The wine has a big, spicy, earthy, peppery nose with cherry jam and hints of the sushi seaweed wrapper called nori. Dark red. Exotic and floral on the nose, with bright red berry and plum aromas lifted by clove and cinnamon. Quite ripe, with deep flavors of bitter cherry, intense spices and smoke. Finishes fat, luscious and long, with very gentle tannins.
Another crowd pleaser, this wine is big, brassy and fruity giving lots of pleasure but with some reassuring structure under all that fruit. Good value. (JR)
