Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2020-2040, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2025

The 2009 Chambertin Grand Cru is rich and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of sweet smoky berries, rose petals, burning embers and subtle hints of peat smoke. Full-bodied, ample and seamless, it's deep, layered and pure, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a long, licorice-inflected finish. This sensual, giving wine exemplifies the charm of the vintage.

Red-ruby. Much more delicate and subtle on the nose than the Mazis, hinting at dark fruits, violet, bitter chocolate, rose, violet, menthol and mint. Sweet and fleshy on entry, then locked up tight in the middle. Much less sweet on the back end, finishing with substantial granular tannins and considerable power. This is a bit of cipher today and clearly will require long aging. Both this and the Mazis were vinified entirely with whole clusters.

95-year-old vines – they lose about 1% a year, and replace by sélection massale . 100% new oak. Some pepper and spice, with lots of lusciousness. Very fresh and yet muscular. Great weight of rich fruit yet massive structure. Certainly a very fine wine. (JR)

The 2009 Chambertin offers up red berries, roses, licorice and mint in a subtle, nuanced style. It shows remarkable nobility and class in a slightly understated personality. Dugat used 100% whole clusters for the Chambertin. Sadly, there is just one lone barrel to go around. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2049. May 2011, www.robertparker.com
