Punteggio 94+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2013

Bright red-ruby. Very ripe yet scented aromas of black raspberry, spices, licorice, bitter chocolate and wild herbs. Wonderfully sappy and juicy but not thick, with strong dark berry, floral and herbal flavors showing terrific thrust. Like most of Bernstein's 2010s, this boasts a serious spine for cellaring. And like the Clos de la Roche, this wine shut down in the glass. In a distinctly masculine style.

The 2010 Bonnes-Mares, from a parcel on the Chambolle side, comes across as big and quite powerful. Dark cherries, mint, wild flowers and sweet spices saturate the palate in this deep, muscular Bonnes-Mares. I only hope to have a chance to taste this when it is mature. This is a great showing from Olivier Bernstrein.

This is a great showing from Olivier Bernstrein. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. Olivier Bernstein is one of the younger generation of micro-negociants who owns no vineyards, but rather sources fruit from a variety of vineyards. In just a few years Bernstein has put together an impressive collection of wines from some of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious appellations. Bernstein describes 2010 as a vintage with a lot of millerandage (shot berries). The 2010s were vinified with 50% stems and the malos finished in July, which is fairly standard for the year. None of the 2010s had been racked at the time of my visit in late November 2011 and bottling was planned for March and April 2012. Stylistically, these are fleshy, generous wines that stand apart for their textural depth. A Becky Wasserman Selection, Le Serbet, imported by: Fine Vines LLC, Melrose Park. IL; tel. (708) 343-6702

Bonbons on the nose. Very close to Chambolle – a fruity expression of Bonnes Mares. Very fine tannins on the end, with lots of saveur and appeal. Great racy stuff. (JR)
