Note di degustazione
Tasted blind. Very dark with narrow rim. Really fragrant but subtle, fresh aroma of black fruit with a light leafy as well as riper damson note. Juicy, fresh, refined tannins. Elegant and harmonious with lots of freshness and length. (JH)

The 2020 Marquis de Calon has a lifted, pretty nose with brambly red fruit, undergrowth and cedar scents. The palate is a bit untidy on the entry, with solid tannins and a touch of greenness that pokes through on the finish. A little more herbal than expected, this is a slightly vexing showing. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
This baby Calon Segur, with all of its spice, leafy tobacco, currants and herbs is already hitting the spot. Medium-bodied, vibrant and fresh with layers of sweet, ripe, red pit fruits and a touch of spicy cocoa is perfect to enjoy while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2023-2040.
The second wine of Château Calon Ségur, the 2020 Le Marquis De Calon Ségur is unquestionably noteworthy. A blend of 54% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, it spent 17 months in 30% new French oak, with the balance in once-used oak. Redcurrants, chocolate, spice, graphite, and a kiss of spicy wood all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and terrific purity. I'd happily drink a glass any time over the coming 10-15 years.
