The 2022 Rosso Toscana Sferracavalli is a pale ruby color and was intended as a light red or more spiced rosé wine. The nose is floral and expressive with ripe strawberries, vanilla, and candied flowers. Medium-bodied, approachable, and refreshing, it's easygoing and has a clean finish. It's great served with a chill and is a playful style that's perfect for drinking over the near term. One of the first female winemakers in Montalcino, Patrizia Cencioni purchased her family estate in 1989. Today she is joined by her two daughters, Annalisa and Ariana, who handle the export market and the hospitality sector respectively. Offelio is an homage to Patrizia's uncle, who took the role of her daughters' Nonno (grandfather) and encouraged Patrizia in the early days of her winery to pave her own path forward. 123, the name of the cru on the other side of the road, is at the highest elevation, with slower maturation than the other sites. Over the past several years, the estate has moved away from small barriques and has been working to produce wines that remain rich but also have elegance and a sense of place.

A bright ruby color, the 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino is bright and lifted with fresh red berries and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied, it's approachable and refined on the palate, with fine tannins and a clean feel. More on the fruity side in this vintage, it's really quite impressive but not overly structured. It's not designed to be a baby Brunello, but it's going to drink well now. One of the first female winemakers in Montalcino, Patrizia Cencioni purchased her family estate in 1989. Made with certified organic fruit, the Le Chiuse 2022 Rosso di Montalcino is a charming Sangiovese that is frank and transparent but manages plenty of basic fruit elegance as well. The bouquet doles out cherry, grilled watermelon and navel orange. It's all very fresh and pretty in a most genuine and simple manner. The 2022 vintage shows special intensity. Production is 13,300 bottles.

Plenty of funkiness on the nose here – much more 'terroir' than grape: earth, leather, floral perfume, dark chocolate, tar. The fruit character is dark cherry and plum. It's almost a meal-in-a-bottle: esoteric, broad range of flavour. (RH)
