The 2017 Syrah-based Red Blend is bold and juicy, yet it retains terrific freshness to play off all of that fruit intensity. The 2017 is 73% Syrah, 25% Zinfandel and 2% Petite Sirah. All of the Syrah was done with whole clusters, but the stems are not especially evident. The Zinfandel is actually really expressive in this blend.

The 2017 1023 Estate Cuvée is made up of 50% Zinfandel, 48% Syrah and 2% Petite Sirah aged 18 months in neutral oak. It has a medium to deep ruby-purple color and bold, singularly scented nose of red hot candy, eucalyptus and underbrush with black and red currant, licorice, peppered meats, ripe blue fruits and aniseed. The medium to full-bodied palate is bold, intense and ripe with loads of layers and flavor accenting. It has a firm, finely grained frame and great freshness on the long, cocoa-laced finish. This is gorgeous! 360 cases produced.
The 2017 Red Blend checks in as a blend of 75% Syrah, 23% Zinfandel, and the balance Petite Sirah that was brought up all in neutral oak. Its deep purple/plum color gives way to a rocking wine that has loads of Syrah darker berry fruits and ground pepper notes intermixed with a kiss of Zinfandel's spice, cedar, and floral notes. Rich, medium to full-bodied, with beautiful acidity and fine tannins, it's a classy, balanced, elegant wine from this estate that's going to continue drinking nicely for at least a decade.
