The 2015 Marquis de Calon shows some Brettanomyces on the nose that slightly masks the fruit profile, though I would not describe it as a serious case. The palate is medium-bodied and balsamic in style, with sharp tannins and a linear finish. Tasted blind at the 2015 Bordeaux Ten-Year-On tasting at Farr Vintners.
The 2015 Marquis de Calon has a gorgeous bouquet of ample blackberry and raspberry fruit, crushed limestone and hints of blue fruit that emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite edgy tannin. The acidity is very well judged and lends real tension. The finish, while it might not be the most complex, it is surfeited with energy. This is a delicious second wine. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
Second wine and more expensive than Capbern. Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Well-balanced nose of middling intensity. Broad, plush fruit and less structure than I would have expected. One of the less ambitious 2015 St-Estèphes. But pretty long. (JR)
