Quite evolved and relatively pale. Again, like the 1990, quite hot and almost boiled out. Simpler and less refreshing than Beaucastel 1989, but with more acidity and tannin than the Beaucastel Hommage 1990. Very, very hot. Hot finish and grainy tannins. (JR)

Henri Bonneau releases his lightest Chateauneuf du Pape cuvee under the name Marie Beurrier. Its power and strength overwhelm most other Chateauneuf du Papes. The 1989 reveals a dark plummy color, a huge sweet nose reminiscent of brandy-soaked fruitcake, opulent, full-bodied flavors that exhibit excellent concentration, and a powerful, heady, intensely spicy finish. This very old-school property makes the most unique Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are fantastically complex and Boneauu made it as it would have been produced 100 years ago in the commune, using methods that familiar to any of the 11 generations of vignerons in his family who preceded him.
