Mid red. Heady scent. Quite severe. Then a friendly spread of pretty, ripe fruit across the palate but this is still hard work! Not desperately intense but the structure of the vintage is very, very evident here. (JR)

Medium red. Captivating aromas of dark cherry, rose petal and smoked meat. Tightly wound and chewy with extract; the cherry and mineral flavors are complicated by a saline element. Like the Latricieres, this is very light on its feet. Finishes firmly tannic, aromatic and long, with a perfumed note of red cherry. This needs a good six to eight years of cellaring.

Deep red. Reduced nose of currant, smoked meat and gunflint. Then dense, fat and full, with a velvety texture and noteworthy generosity in the mouth. By far the biggest and thickest 2004 to this point, but also sappy and fresh. Complicating notes of smoke and mocha. Quite outsized for the vintage. Faiveley had to pull up nearly 20% of this vineyard after the harvest of 2005, as many degenerating vines were producing almost no fruit.
