Punteggio 92/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2021

The 2001 Guiraud sports a fragrant but not intense nose, featuring the lanolin and apricot notes that I observed previously; touches of grilled walnut surface with time. The lightly spiced palate is very well balanced with a honeyed opening and ginger-infused quince and marmalade flavors. It builds nicely on the finish without fully letting rip. (NM)

Intensely fruity and rich with wonderful sweetness and loads of spicy and honey character with a dried apricot undertone. It hasn’t changed much since I last tasted it, just bottled. Great 2001.

Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The Guiraud 1990 has a typical oleaginous bouquet of brown sugar, lanolin, quince and dried orange peel that opens nicely during aeration. The palate is full-bodied with good botrytis levels, and suggestive scents of dried mango, spice, brown sugar and quince. There is good volume here and it puts the 1989 in the shade, though I personally prefer the precision and exuberance of the Guiraud 1988. Still, this is a very decent Guiraud that should be consumed over the next five years. Drink now-2018. Tasted April 2013.
