(375 ml.) A penetrating nose of white raisin, candied lemon rind and white currant jelly wreathed in decadent lily perfume prepares the way for a somewhat bifurcated palate impression at once confectionary and almost syrupy-sweet but at the same time tart. The texture is correspondingly creamy yet shot-through with fresh citrus. Caramel, marzipan and honey add to the complexity exhibited in an impressively persistent finish. “A heavyweight like this,” remarks von Schubert “might have a little trouble running at this stage.” But it may well slim-down and knit together its split personality, of which it certainly has lots to spare.

The 2015 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Beerenauslese has a super clear, piquant and concentrated bouquet of botrytis and grapefruit flavors. Round, intense and finesse-full on the palate, this is a concentrated, piquant, still mineral and salty BA of great finesse and elegance. This is a typical Grünhäuser Riesling that is light, precise, piquant and extremely stimulating. Pretty expensive though. 375-milliliter bottles.
