2001 Portfolio Limited Edition

Bright ruby-red to the rim! Musky scents of black raspberry, blackberry, mocha, licorice and spice cake, plus a whiff of leather. Densely packed, dark and savory, boasting excellent depth and an element of reserve to its slightly medicinal, tight-grained dark berry, cocoa powder and spice flavors. Still a bit brooding but with lovely supporting sweetness of dark berry fruit. Very long on the aftertaste, finishing with rising dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors and firm dusty tannins that may yet gain in pliancy. A terrific showing: still wonderfully youthful and firm, with more evolution ahead. In fact, this wine seems to be just now embarking on its plane of peak drinkability. Portfolio is a joint venture between Geneviève Janssens, long-time Director of Winemaking at Robert Mondavi Winery, and her husband Luc.
