The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has a succinct nose with Braeburn apple, Cornice pear and subtle petrichor scents that discretely unfold in the glass, but never get too carried away. The palate is well balanced with some new oak to be subsumed on the entry, fine depth, a little richer than other crus with orange zest perking up the finish. This has a very late malo and it requires the second winter in barrel to bind it together, but the potential is here.

There are two barrels of the 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne, a medium to full-bodied, ample and racy white redolent of crisp green orchard fruit, waxy citrus, fresh mint and white flowers. Satiny, pure and precise, it concludes with a mouthwateringly saline finish.
0.15 hectare. Partial malolactic conversion. Cask sample. Mid lemon. Apple, lemon, white flowers. Puligny richness immediately evident with a peppery, spice note. This is young and shell-like, but evidently concentrated and powerful. (MH)
