Full bottle 1,333 g. Not aggressively struck match. In fact – perhaps because of the cool, wet vintage – a tad light and dry on the palate, though the nose promises more development, even richness. Comparing it with Kumeu River, Hunting Hill Chardonnay 2023, it has a bit more going on on the palate, and better length, but it didn't improve overnight so I'm not sure about its likely development. The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc has a light bouquet with touches of red apple and dewy meadow. It is certainly lighter than recent vintages, as you would expect, given the growing season. The palate, slightly waxy in texture, has plenty of depth, with fleeting touches of chamomile towards the finish. Drink over the next 3-5 years.
The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc is showing nicely, offering up notes of white flowers mingled with pear, melon and hazelnuts. Medium-bodied, bright and precise, with a pretty core of fruit, chalky grip and a saline finish, it's based on domaine fruit supplemented by some purchased grapes.
