Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2019-2027, Jancis Robinson MW, Mar 2025

Full bottle 1,580 g. 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from their own impeccably grown vineyards. 90% of the wine came from grand and premier cru villages. No malo. Aged for 7 years on lees. Dosage 9 g/l. No disgorgement date given on the bottle . For more background on a bottle of this wine tasted in 2017, see here . Very pretty nose, obviously less concentrated than the Billecart-Salmon, Le Clos St Hilaire 2009 just tasted. But pretty beautifully balanced. Just about retaining some tension despite the ripe vintage. The fruit may just be starting to dry out a bit but there is no shortage of it. Really zesty with citrus-peel character. (JR)

90% grand and premier crus. 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. Aged for seven years on the lees. Disgorged 2017. Dosage 8 g/l. Tasted blind. Pale straw. Very complete and satisfying. Hint of crème pâtissière on the nose. Great tension and a great drink. Already appealing. But perhaps not massively long. Rich! Fun to drink now. 2009? (JR)

Interesting to contrast with the Brut Nature 2009 – this seems much fuller and juicier by comparison, yet the finish is still essentially dry and appetising. Great complexity and still full of energy and youthfulness. (RH)

Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2017-2026, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2017

Estate bottled, so always from same 10 parcels, chosen for their style. Soil is more influential than blend. From 7 ha in Verzenay on chalk and clay. The Pinot Noir is a bit austere with some oyster shells. Plus 3 ha of south-east-facing Chouilly Chardonnay. 70% very cool Pinot Noir and 30% ripe Chardonnay fermented separately. Sometimes one of the 10 blocks is not used. Up to 50% of the Pinot is fermented in large old oak. No malo. They released the 2009 before the 2008. Dosage 8 g/l. Broad, savoury nose – really quite meaty! Lots of depth on the nose. Racy, bone dry and rather majestic on the palate. Big and bold. (JR)
