Note di degustazione
This small estate is located just north of Montalcino on the road that leads from town center to Torrenieri. Proprietor Marco Mantengoli fashions an attractive, modern-styled Brunello from his 8.5 hectares of vineyards. This pretty, deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is warm and ample on the palate where it offers plummy dark fruit, chocolate, sweet toasted oak and licorice flavors. Made in a plush, concentrated style, it displays excellent length although today the wine remains somewhat dominated by a heavy-handed use of barrique which is felt in both the flavors as well as the somewhat astringent tannins that define the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018. Importer: Montecastelli Selections, New York, NY; tel. (212) 414-4898.

Deep red. Very ripe, slightly roasted aromas of berries, pipe tobacco and licorice, lifted by a wild floral nuance. Rich, concentrated and superripe, with very sweet flavors of marzipan and cherry cola. Fleshy and fat but nicely framed by good ripe acidity. Finishes with big, sweet, chewy tannins. A bit unrefined but a large mouthful of Brunello.
