Reminding me of a great vintage of La Mission Haut Brion, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard offers a stunning bouquet of blackcurrants, tobacco, gravelly earth, chocolate, and lead pencil. Just pure class, with full body, ultra-fine tannins, and awesome purity and elegance, it's a stunning achievement in 2017. It’s going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and cruise in cool cellars for over two decades.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is plush, racy and voluptuous - in other words, everything this St. Helena site seems to do so well naturally. Silky tannins and plush fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. Dark cherry, plum, cedar, tobacco, mint and licorice add nuance, but it is the wine's overall feel that stands out most. Give the tannins a few years to soften so this beautiful Cabernet can show its best.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard contains 5% Petit Verdot and was aged 20 months in 75% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes charging out of the glass with bold notions of blackberry pie, crème de cassis and black cherry compote plus hints of cigar box, iron ore, lilacs and fragrant soil. Full-bodied, the palate has both richness and elegance, with a fine-grained texture and tons of freshness on the finish.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Racy and seductive, the 2017 has so much to offer. Soft contours and plush, silky fruit are pushed forward in a striking wine endowed with tremendous character. It is one of the more compelling young 2017s I have tasted so far.
