2014 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair - Vosne-Romanee Les Petits Monts 1er Cru

(these vines are now 55 years old; tasted from tank): Bright ruby-red. Very ripe, slightly reduced aromas of boysenberry, kirsch and licorice. Precise, pure flavors of black fruits, minerals and violet convey a sexy touch of sweetness. This extremely young wine finishes long, with a firm tannic spine. Very classy juice with real energy but no hardness.

The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru les Petits Monts is always one of my favorite releases from the domaine and the 2014 continues a fine run of form with a very engaging, beautifully defined bouquet of dark cherries, bergamot, raspberry coulis and cold stone. There is wonderful focus and intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannin, quite edgy in the mouth and tensile with orange sorbet infusing the dark fruit on the finish. You get the feeling that the nascent Petits Monts is "wired."

Bright crimson. Scented, almost floral nose. Very fresh and spring-like. Delicate. Very delicate hand here. Blossom. (JR)
