Punteggio 100/100 · Da bere 2023-2053, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2023

Absolute perfection in red wine, and matching the 2009 and 2010, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Belle Hélène reveals a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a full-bodied, massively concentrated style carrying loads of ripe black fruits, some textbook Côte Rôtie smoked meats, tapenade, and spring flowers, extravagant richness and depth, and building, perfectly ripe tannins. Despite being a decadent, powerful wine, it’s perfectly balanced and stays graceful and elegant, with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It's accessible even today given its purity and overall balance, yet this has another 30 years of longevity.

The 2015 Cote Rotie La Belle Helene is smoky, dark and brooding, almost fruitcake-like in its density and complexity. It flirts with surmaturité and dried-fruit notes yet stays just this side of over-ripeness. It’s not as aromatically complex or as elegant as the Lancement but may be longer-lived.

Youthful purple. Raspberry, boysenberry, incense and smoky Indian spices on the intensely perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Sweet, creamy and surprisingly energetic for its heft, offering vibrant dark fruit, floral pastille, fruitcake and mineral flavors that betray no rough edges. The floral and spice notes expand steadily on the youthfully tannic finish, which shows noteworthy purity, focus and mineral-driven tenacity.
