I generally prefer Leflaive’s Combettes to their Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres, but not in 1996. This magnificent wine exhibits almond, hazelnut, and sweet floral scents. Its ethereal character is filled with pears, minerals, and lemons that seemingly last forever. This Folatieres is medium-to-full-bodied, highly-delineated with the balance to evolve gracefully for twelve years or more. Projected maturity: 2002-2012. Importer: Frederick Wildman & Sons, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700.

Leflaive's Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres possesses a magnificently rich, deep and minerally nose as well as a beautifully defined, medium-to-full-bodied, and bright personality. Outstanding depth of fruit - pears, lemons and white peaches - and buttery notes are found in this wine's core and its fabulous finish. Projected maturity: 2002-2010. Feb 1998, www.robertparker.com

Green-tinged pale color. Cooler aromas of flowers, mint and lemon. Vibrant citric and floral flavors given grip and focus by strong acidity. Very elegantly styled. A strong mineral character adds to the impression of backbone and currently camouflages the wine's richness. Very firm finish.
