Medium to full-bodied and displaying a nose of spicy dark fruits, bing cherries, and toast, the 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux- St.-Jacques is a juicy, rich wine. Medium-deep red. Berries, flowers and game on the ripe nose. Suave and minerally in the mouth; a serious, structured, firmly tannic wine with very good length and spicy complexity. (The Combe aux Moines was impressively primary and minerally but disjointed at the time of my visit and in need of a racking.)
Cask sample. Youthful, lolly-like/popsicle fruit then sleek and jewelly on the palate with a pretty tight corset. Strict – loads of structure. Keep this one for ages. (JR)
