Tasted blind. Perfumed, opulent, rich red fruit but not candied – yet that sweetness does seem prototypically New World. Generous, lovely fruit expression on the palate with chalky tannins and a dry, earthy finish. The texture says old world. (RH)

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village is a real success, wafting from the glass with scents of briary berry fruit, smoked meats, dried flowers and Indian spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, bright and vibrant, with a firm core of fruit, powdery tannins and a sapid finish. This is a touch more supple and giving than the Gevrey village, but the two are on a very similar qualitative level.

Bright medium red. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, menthol and minerals are complicated by a note of dark chocolate. Riper and suppler than the Chambolle villages , conveying a more open-knit texture and lovely sucrosité to its black raspberry and spice flavors. Finishes with finer, more horizontal tannins than the Chambolle. Faure-Brac vinified this wine with just 20% whole clusters but it does not lack for energy. A very good example of a relaxed 2016 made without frost influence.
