(one-third new oak): Healthy bright red. Pure if subdued aromas of cherry, raspberry, minerals and flowers. Juicy, delicate and precise, combining noteworthy saline density and a light touch. This classy, very young wine boasts firm, ripe tannins and a slowly rising finish that left my empty glass perfumed. Here the new oak element helps to carry the wine's aromas.

Bright medium red. Vibrant aromas of red cherry and minerals. Silky, supple and energetic, offering a lovely restrained sweetness and inner-mouth perfume to the intense red berry and complex mineral flavors. Has the strength of material to support its firm tannic spine. I may be underrating this.
A dark, decidedly somber wine, the 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts is laced with smoke, tar, licorice, incense, black fruit and earthiness. The 2012 is likely to require considerable cellaring. Today it is rich, intense and powerful, but also not fully formed. It will be interesting to see if the 2012 acquires a measure of finesse, or if it remains a bit of a brute.
A cool, spicy and beautifully elegant nose: cassis, anise and appealing floral aromas introduces seductive and velvet-textured medium weight flavors that brim with both minerality and an abundance of structure-buffering dry extract. There is enough wood to notice on the mouth coating finish that is firm but balanced. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2022+
