Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru from Domaine Follin-Arbelet has an intense, dark cherry, blackcurrant and liquorice-tinged bouquet that perhaps lacks the nuance and complexity you see from such a grand cru. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, supple and velvety in the mouth with a juicy ripe core, rippling nicely towards the finish marked by well judged acidity and a sustained plush aftertaste.

Mid cherry red. Perfumed and classy on the nose. Remarkably complex on the nose for such a young wine: red fruit, citrus, lightly floral – blossom. Tannins are fine and already smooth but they are also deep and structured for a longer life. Great persistence. (JH)
