Coming from a cooler terroir on York Mountain, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Chelle Mountain is all varietal that spent 30 months in new French oak. There are a tiny 250 cases made, and it has a dense purple hue as well as ripe black and blue fruits, chocolate, leafy herbs, licorice, and graphite-driven aromas and flavors. As with all of Russell's wines, this beauty is full-bodied, ripe, and opulent, with a somehow massive yet still balanced and graceful style that makes it so much fun to drink. I always love these wines from Russell From, and they’re consistently made in a ripe, pedal-to-the-metal style that stays balanced and light on its feet. These pleasure-bent, sexy wines are always fun to drink.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Chelle Mountain Vineyard is drop-dead gorgeous with a vivid combination of red currants, pepper-tinged rose and hints of tangerine. This is cool-toned and racy in feel, with brilliant acidity that counterbalances its core of ultra-ripe wild berry fruits. It finishes classically structured and potent, leaving a staining of primary concentration to linger as residual acids add a lovely freshness. Lose this in the cellar for several years. Well done.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Chelle Mountain Vineyard was aged for 30 months in 100% new oak and aged an additional year in bottle before release. Deep ruby-purple, it opens with cedary new oak and takes time to offer up cassis, pencil shavings and thyme. Full-bodied, it has an intense core of ripe fruit, grainy tannins, seamless acidity and generous new oak character on the finish. Fans of big, bold, oaky reds will enjoy this after a few hours in the decanter.
